Privacy policy
Short version: we transcribe what you say, deliver the text to the destination you chose, and delete the audio. No account, no advertising, no analytics.
What we collect
DriftVoice records audio only when you tap to start a recording. The audio is sent over HTTPS to our transcription service, transcribed into text, and delivered to the destination you picked (Obsidian, Evernote, or email). After delivery the local audio file is deleted from your device. The transcribed text is sent only to the destination you chose; we do not keep a copy.
On the public website driftvoice.app the only thing we collect is the name and email address you voluntarily enter in the waitlist form. That entry is stored on a server we operate (Silenrock) for the sole purpose of emailing you when DriftVoice goes public. You can ask us to remove your entry at any time by replying to the confirmation email or writing to info@silenrock.com.
What we do not collect
No advertising identifiers. No analytics framework. No location. No contacts. No device fingerprinting. The app does not have an account, so there is no profile to build.
Where your data lives
Audio in transit goes to api.silenrock.com, a server we operate in Amsterdam (DigitalOcean AMS3). From there the audio is forwarded over HTTPS to a third-party speech-to-text provider (currently OpenAI gpt-4o-transcribe via OpenRouter) for transcription. The provider returns text, the server returns it to the app, and the audio is dropped server-side. We do not store audio.
Email delivery, if you chose that destination, uses Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) as the sending relay. The transcribed text passes through Brevo's infrastructure on its way to your inbox.
Permissions DriftVoice asks for
- Microphone, to capture the audio you want to transcribe. Only used while you have explicitly started a recording.
- Notifications, so the lockscreen "Start" button works and you can see progress and results without unlocking.
- Storage Access Framework, granted by you per folder when you pick an Obsidian vault. Used to append the daily note in that folder, nothing else.
- Internet, to reach the transcription service and the email relay.
- Boot completed, so the persistent control notification re-appears after a phone restart.
Legal basis (GDPR)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation we process the audio you record on the basis of your consent, given every time you tap Start. We process your waitlist signup on the basis of legitimate interest: informing people who explicitly asked to be informed of our launch.
Retention
Audio: deleted from the device after delivery, not stored on our server beyond the few seconds it takes to transcribe. Transcribed text: never stored on our server, only on the destination you chose. Waitlist entries: kept until the launch announcement goes out, you can request earlier removal at any time.
Your rights
You can uninstall the app at any time. Uninstalling clears all locally stored settings (DataStore) and any encrypted keys you may have entered (EncryptedSharedPreferences). There is no remote account to delete.
If you are in the EU, EEA or UK you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Since the only personal data we hold is your waitlist signup, in practice all of these reduce to "email info@silenrock.com and we will act on it". You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority; for the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Children
DriftVoice is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we materially change how DriftVoice handles your data we will update this page and bump the date below. Existing waitlist signups will be notified by email.
